Locally hosted Safaris are the more typical style to travel, and all lodges in Africa employ local citizen guides as a matter of course. These individuals are often from the area, and their families may well have originated from there prior to the creation of a particular national park or reserve.
The typical visitor to a camp will be allocated to a particular guide for the duration of their visit, and join other guests in that vehicle. The guide will be your host and liase with you for any particular activities you wish to include.
These local guides usually have an intimate knowledge of their areas they are out every day, and share information with each other as to animals whereabouts. These guides are generally fun and full of stories of their experiences.
Each camp follows a similar protocol with guests, so repetition is unavoidable to a large degree.
